Windber resident killed Tuesday in single-vehicle accident in Allegheny County

A Somerset County woman died Tuesday afternoon in a one-vehicle accident along Interstate 376 in Monroeville, Allegheny County.

According to a Pennsylvania State Police report, a Jeep Liberty driven by 44-year-old Jamie Piper of Windber crashed around 4 p.m. along the Parkway East at the Route 22 interchange.

Piper was the sole occupant of the vehicle, which "exited the roadway at a higher rate of speed and struck into an embankment. The vehicle then went airborne and began to roll over, landing uphill," said Trooper Rocco Gagliardi, public information officer for Troop B in Pittsburgh.

"The operator was transported to a nearby hospital and was declared deceased by medical staff."

The state police report said the weather was clear and the road dry at the time of the crash.

Monroeville Police Chief Doug Cole said borough police and fire departments and a Pittsburgh EMS unit were dispatched at 4 p.m. to the accident. State police responded soon after to lead the investigation.

The Daily American has contacted the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office for more information on the cause of Piper's death and will update this story when that information becomes available.

The Meek & Dalla Valle Funeral Home in Windber is handling the funeral arrangements for the family.
