In Boswell, Ethan Smith tallied four total touchdowns and North Star fended off Everett 48-27 on Friday.

"Some weeks you're going to be in a dog fight, and we were definitely in one tonight," North Star coach Bob Landis said. "Everett was aggressive. We did a lot of good things on offense to answer their scores. They moved the ball on our defense, and that has not happened much this season."

Quarterback Kasey Yoder rushed for touchdowns of 50, 3 and 8 yards on the night.

North Star led 14-7 after one, highlighted by a Smith 50-yard pick six.

Smith added a touchdown in the second to give the Cougars a 21-7 lead at the break.

Everett (2-4) made it a one-score game with a touchdown to open the third.

However, Yoder found paydirt for the second time in the game to give the Cougars a 28-14 lead.

The Warriors pulled within a score once again to begin the fourth. But the Cougars answered once again with another Yoder touchdown run.

Smith put the game out of reach with a 60-yard touchdown run and a 3-yard burst to put a cap on another stellar performance.

Kicker Stasi Musselman went 6-for-7 on extra point tries.

North Star (5-1) entertains Connellsville on Friday.

    Windber pummels Carrick

R.J. Tallion carried 18 times for 195 yards and four touchdowns to guide Windber to a commanding 49-6 win over Pittsburgh City League foe Carrick.

"Great win tonight for our guys," Windber coach Matt Grohal said. "We played a clean game in all three phases. After last week's debacle, (I) wasn't sure how we would respond. But we have a veteran ball club and our leaders really stepped up this week.

Windber led 28-0 after one on three Tallion TD runs, a Bryce Chicarell 35-yard touchdown scamper and a safety by Ryan Grohal.

The Ramblers (4-2) held a 35-0 lead at half after Tallion scored from 17 yards out, with 29 seconds to go.

Mason Horner recovered a fumble for a touchdown and Camden Marx added a score to set the final.

    Windber visits Everett on Friday.

Conemaugh Township stunned by Penns Manor

Trailing late in the fourth quarter, Penns Manor rallied to score 16 unanswered points in the final three minutes of the game to earn a 22-16 win over Conemaugh Township.

"Our boys played well tonight, but we failed to close it out," Conemaugh Township coach Brandon Studer said. "Being up 10 with 6 minutes left, we failed to finish this week. Penns Manor had to make a lot of plays to win that game, and they successfully executed. We cannot take that away from them."

Conemaugh Township (3-3) got on the board with 9:39 left in the second quarter, when Greyson Studer connected with Brennan Lohr on a 13-yard touchdown pass.

Penns Manor answered with a touchdown and trailed 7-6 at the break.

Sam Shaffer gave Conemaugh Township a 13-6 advantage with a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Jackson Sotosky added a 19-yard field goal in the fourth before the Comets mounted their comeback.

Conemaugh Township hosts unbeaten Cambria Heights on Friday in the first of two straight huge Heritage Conference battles.

"These next two weeks will be two of our toughest tests this season, and we will challenge our boys to respond after a tough loss," Studer said.

Somerset battles but falls to Richland

Richland rallied from a six-point, second-quarter deficit to upend Somerset 31-12 on Homecoming Night.

Quarterback Grayson Mahla rushed for 88 yards and three touchdowns for the Rams, who improved to 5-1. He also tossed a 45-yard TD pass to Arnold Mugerwa.

Somerset quarterback Lane Lambert rushed for 107 yards on 13 carries, including a 9-yard touchdown run to cap a 6-play 64-yard drive to open the scoring in the second quarter.

Noah Ritko hit a 50-yard field goal before the half to give the Rams a 17-6 lead.

Rowan Holmes scored from a yard out to pull the Golden Eagles within 17-12 midway through the third.

However, Mahla answered with two rushing touchdowns to set the final.

"We played with passion and enthusiasm, and I am proud of our effort," Somerset coach Jeff Urban said. "We failed to capitalize on our opportunity and gave a good football team a short field. Once again, in our league, we need to finish drives and win the field position battle."

Drew Miller rushed for 67 yards and Cole Parry had 62 yards receiving for the Golden Eagles.

Somerset (2-4) hosts Bedford on Friday.
