CONEMAUGH TWP. ― A fire Sunday evening damaged the attic area of a local home, according to Conemaugh Township Police Chief Vincent Zangaglia.

Seven fire departments from Somerset and Cambria counties were dispatched at 7 p.m. for a house fire along the 400 block of Ligonier Pike, according to the Somerset County 911 Communications Center. In addition to the Conemaugh Township Volunteer Fire Department, personnel from Scalp Level-Paint and Jerome fire departments responded, as well as firefighters from Oakland, Riverside, West Hills and Upper Yoder departments in Cambria County. Conemaugh Township EMS and Police units also responded to the scene.

Zangaglia said the firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly.

"There was some fire in the attic area that caused severe damage, but the home is not a total loss," he said. "The resident was home at the time but was able to get out without injury."

The Conemaugh Township Police Department is investigating the cause of the fire, but foul play is not suspected, Zangaglia said.
