    You November ballot: Voters will only see one contested countywide contested race

    CAMBRIDGE − Guernsey County Board of Elections reports one competitive race in county and two countywide levies with changes for the Nov. 5 general election.

    Races

    Incumbent Republican Paul Sherry is being challenged by Democrat Robert Heady for Guernsey County engineer.

    All other county offices are unopposed. This includes Republicans Sandra Massulo-Schubert for coroner, Sharon Secrest for treasurer, Marilyn Callahan for recorder, Jennifer Johnson for clerk of courts, Lindsey Angler for prosecutor and Jack Marlin and William Cowgill for commissioner. Democrat Jeffrey Paden is running for sheriff.

    For the Ohio Senate 30th District seat, incumbent Republican Brian Chavez is being challenged by Democrat Iva Faber. For the 95th District of the Ohio House of Representatives, incumbent Republican Don Jones is being challenged by Democrat Micah McCarey. Part of the county is also covered by the 97th House District with incumbent Republican Adam Holmes running unopposed for re-election.

    For the U.S. House of Representatives, incumbent Republican Troy Balderson is being challenged by Democrat Jerrad Christian.

    Levies

    Countryview Assisted Living Center, formerly known as the Guernsey County Home, is seeking a replacement and increase property tax levy for five years for maintenance and operations. It will go from 1-mill to 1.5-mills and be billed at current tax rates.

    The Guernsey County Senior Citizen Center is seeking a renewal of a 1.5-mill levy for five years with an increase of 0.3-mills for providing senior services. The addition would be billed at current rates.

    The other countywide levy is a renewal for alcohol and drug addiction programs through the county provided mental health programs at 1-mill for 10 years.

    Valley Township is seeking a replacement of of its current 1-mill levy with an increase of 0.5-mills for five years for cemetery maintenance, to be billed at current rates.

    Other levies are renewals for five years. They include the Village of Quaker City is seeking 1.5-mills for street improvements and maintenance. The Village of Senecaville is seeking 3.5-mills for street improvements and maintenance. Adams Township is seeking 2.5-mills for fire protection. Center Township is seeking 1.0-mills for resurfacing, repair and maintenance of roads, including dust control. Lore City is seeking 1.0-mills for current expenses. Liberty Township is seeking 0.5-mills for fire protection.

    Voting information

    The Guernsey County Board of Elections will have special hours for in-person early voting at its office. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 8 to 11 and Oct. 14 to 18, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 21 to 25, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26, 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 27, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 29, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 2 and 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 3. There is no early voting on the Monday prior to Election Day.

    Applications for absentee ballots are to be received no later than 8:30 p.m. Oct. 29. One should allow a minimum of seven to 10 days for the postal service to deliver your application to the board of elections and for your ballot to be mailed to you. Absentee ballots must be postmarked no later than Nov. 4. There is also a secure drop box ballots can be deposited in at the board office, 627 Wheeling Ave.
