FERGUSON — Firefighters with Lawrence County Volunteer Fire Departments and the Mississippi Forestry Commission battled a wildfire Thursday afternoon. The fire was contained to 40 acres.

Shannon Coker, MFC Director of Communications, said the cause of the wildfire was undetermined. We will report any further details we can get from the MFC Fire Chief.

East Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department worked two separate fire calls Friday. One call was garbage being burned while the other was a grass fire.

A reminder that nine out of 10 wildfires are caused by humans and thus preventable. The Mississippi Forestry Commission reminds people to be fire wise when burning debris or anything. Have a fire break, check the weather, check for burn bans and keep a water source on hand to keep the fire contained
