LOYD STAR — One man was seriously injured in a two vehicle accident Sunday morning on MS-550 just west of Sams Road and Dollar General. Mississippi Highway Patrol released further details about the wreck Tuesday morning.

Cpl. Craig James, part of the MHP Public Affairs Division, said the wreck occurred at 11:48 a.m. as two drivers drove west bound on MS-550. Luis Ruiz-Garcia, 19, of Wesson was driving a 2012 Ford west bound when he was struck from behind by a 2009 Nissan driven by Troy Allen, 56, of Brookhaven.

According to MHP’s report, the Nissan left the roadway following the initial collision, overturned and collided with a tree. Allen, the driver of the Nissan, was not restrained by a seatbelt in the crash. He was transported by ambulance to KDMC with serious injuries and is reportedly in stable condition.

Ruiz-Garcia, driver of the Ford, did not suffer any apparent injuries in the crash. He was restrained by a seatbelt.

James said the crash is technically still under investigation but at this time alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash.

A separate wreck occurred near 1399 MS-550 close to the west end of Sam’s Road Monday afternoon. The single vehicle wreck was at 4:14 p.m. and no injuries were reported by MHP.

Did he use his turn signal before turning? Could this have caused the wreck? TOO many people do not use them properly.
