Gallery: Firefighters respond to signs of smoke at Southway

BROOKHAVEN — Firefighters with Brookhaven Fire Department responded to reports of smoke showing at Southway Baptist Church at 1107 S. Jackson Street in Brookhaven Tuesday afternoon. Three engines and two pick-up trucks were on scene from Brookhaven Fire Department and a couple of officers from Brookhaven Police Department were on scene.

After searching through the church’s fellowship hall, firefighters were able to locate the cause of the smoke. A freon leak in the HVAC unit was the cause of the smoke. The building was cleared after units worked to ventilate the smoke out.
