Hurricane Milton could contribute to windy, fall days ahead

BROOKHAVEN — Hurricane Milton, located in the Gulf of Mexico, is not forecast to have any real impact on Lincoln County as it moves east towards Florida. The National Weather Service in Jackson reports the storm could contribute to stronger winds in the coming days.

Forecast discussion by NWS Jackson states the hurricane could lead to a pressure gradient enhancement which could in turn cause winds to gust in excess of 10 to 15 mph Tuesday and Wednesday. Otherwise, fall conditions of sunshine, low humidity and cool temperatures at night are in the forecast.

The lovely fall weather of course is accompanied by a separate weather hazard. Wildfire risk conditions could develop in the coming days as Lincoln County lacks needed rainfall. Fuels are dry, winds remain strong enough to carry fire and relative humidity values could dip below 40 percent in the afternoons over the next few days.

There is still no chance of rain in the forecast for the next seven days. It is a slight concern as abnormally dry conditions could develop into more severe drought conditions.
