WASHINGTON PARISH, La. — Washington Parish Fire District 6 has been bustling with activity over the past week, as crews tirelessly responded to a string of emergencies, showcasing their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the community.

According to statements from Washington Parish Fire District 6, the past week saw a flurry of incidents, including three house fires, a sprawling woods fire spanning approximately 20 acres, two brush fires, and multiple medical calls. Amidst these exigencies, firefighters diligently undertook the task of cleaning and reassembling thousands of feet of hose used during these operations, ensuring readiness for future emergencies.

Assistant Chief Daniel Touchstone provided insights into the challenging week, disclosing that the department fielded a total of 11 calls. The busy week commenced on Friday, Feb. 2, with a response to a significant woods fire, ignited by a debris fire at a new construction site that spiraled out of control. Touchstone noted the involvement of forestry personnel, who deployed a bulldozer to establish a fire line, crucial for containment efforts.

Saturday night into Sunday morning saw the department tackling a house fire at 1:40 a.m., followed by another house fire collaboration with Washington Parish Fire District 4 around noon on Sunday, Feb. 3/4.

On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the team lent support to Pear River County in the Crossroads area, grappling with a two-structure fire. Then, on Thursday, Feb. 8, the department again came to the aid of District 4, this time combating a large wood fire, before extinguishing a smaller wood fire later that night.

The relentless series of incidents underscored the dedication and readiness of Washington Parish Fire District 6 in safeguarding the welfare and property of the community, even amidst challenging circumstances.
