Murfreesboro area high school fall sports Week 7 top performers: Central girls golfers reach state

The Central Magnet girls golf team advanced to the TSSAA state tournament for the third consecutive season, winning the Region 5-AA tourney Monday at Gallatin's Long Hollow course.

Macon County won the boys region title, but there were two Murfreesboro area individuals who advanced to state.

The Lady Tigers shot a 149 to edge second-place Macon County by five strokes.

Emery Mitchell, who was low medalist in last week's district tournament, captured low medalist again Monday, firing a 73 and winning a three-way playoff over Wilson Central's Meredith Eller (second) and Beech's Reese Rexroat.

Anna Powell added a 76 for Central Magnet while Lauren Powell shot a 78.

Macon County's Mattie Goad (75) was one of three individuals who advanced to state, along with Eller and Rexroat.

Macon County's boys shot a 282, which was nine strokes better than second-place Rockvale. Rocket senior Aidan Sinclair advanced to state with a 69. Blackman's Braxton Head (70) also advanced as an individual.

Only the top team and the top three individuals (not on the winning team) advanced.

The Class AA state tournament will be held Oct. 10-11 in Sevierville.
