The San Francisco 49ers released veteran tight end Logan Thomas on Friday. The 49ers also announced the signings of punter Pressley Harvin III and defensive linemen Jonathan Garvin to one-year deals and placed defensive lineman Austin Bryant (leg) on injured reserve. Thomas was signed in the offseason by the 49ers and slowed during training camp by a hamstring injury. He caught 55 passes for 496 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games (15 starts) last season for the Washington Commanders. Thomas, 33, has 219 career receptions for 2,002 yards and 16 touchdowns in 94 career games (57 starts). He was a college quarterback at Virginia Tech and has played in the NFL for the Arizona Cardinals (2014), Buffalo Bills (2017-18), Detroit Lions (2019) and the Commanders (2020-23). Harvin, 25, spent the last three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. A 2021 seventh-round draft pick out of Georgia Tech, Harvin averaged 39.1 net yards per punt in 15 games last season while dropping 30 of his 78 punts inside the 20-yard line. Veteran punter Mitch Wishnowsky has missed time in training camp with a knee injury and is not expected to be available for Saturday's preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. Garvin, 25, was a seventh-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2020 out of Miami and had 32 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 38 games (one start) in three seasons. He played for the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL in earlier this year and had 3.5 sacks. Bryant, 27, has played in 35 NFL games (six starts) with the Detroit Lions (2019-22) and 49ers. The fourth-round pick by the Lions in 2019 out of Clemson has 66 career tackles and 4.5 sacks. He was injured during Wednesday's practice. --Field Level Media
