Georgia RB Trevor Etienne pleads no contest to reckless driving
Georgia running back Trevor Etienne is no longer facing DUI charges after pleading no contest to reckless driving, underage possession of alcohol and two other lesser driving offenses on Wednesday. Etienne, who was arrested on March 24, appeared at a hearing in Athens-Clarke County (Ga.) Municipal Court. "We're pleased the evidence didn't support the DUI charge to begin with," Etienne's attorney Kim Stephens told the Athens Banner-Herald. "We're pleased the solicitor's office saw that and agreed to something that wasn't a DUI." The 20-year-old Etienne is expected to be Georgia's lead ball carrier after two seasons at Florida. Etienne was arrested by Athens-Clarke Couty police on charges of drunken driving, affixing materials that reduce visibility through the windows or windshield and failure to maintain a lane or improper driving. It's unclear if Etienne will play in Georgia's season opener on Aug. 31 against visiting Clemson. Athletes convicted of DUI face a minimum of a one-game suspension, per Georgia's team policy. At Florida, Etienne -- the younger the brother of Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne -- rushed for 14 touchdowns and 1,472 yards on 249 carries in two seasons. --Field Level Media

Monte Kiffin, architect of ‘Tampa 2’ Super Bowl-winning defense, dies at 84
Super Bowl champion Monte Kiffin, 84, has died, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Ole Miss Football announced on Thursday. He passed in Oxford, Miss., surrounded by family and friends. Kiffin was the defensive coordinator and architect of the Buccaneers' famed "Tampa 2" defense that gained popularity at all levels of football following its success in Tampa over a 13-year run under head coaches Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden that resulted in the franchise's first NFL championship in Super Bowl XXXVII in 2003. He coordinated Hall of Fame defenders Warren Sapp, Darrick Brooks, John Lynch and Ronde Barber over that run....

CSU's Jay Norvell: QB shared K-State transfer offer of $600K
Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell moved on from Colorado rival Deion Sanders, he claims, but the Rams' coach spilled the tea on a new hot-button issue around his program: tampering with quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and wide receiver Tory Horton. Norvell said Thursday in Las Vegas during Mountain West Conference media day he has no thoughts about Sanders, the subject of a feud before they played last season. But he did have thoughts on teams wielding massive Name, Image and Likeness offers to CSU's standouts. That included Norvell saying Fowler-Nicolosi informed Colorado State that someone connected to Kansas State called...

Three Georgia football players arrested in traffic incidents
Apparently, Kirby Smart's efforts to curb reckless driving from Georgia football players are not enough. Georgia linebacker Smael Mondon and offensive lineman Bo Hughley were arrested on consecutive nights this week on traffic-related offenses, according to police records. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported late Thursday that there was actually a third Georgia player, freshman defensive back Demello Jones who was also arrested in the same incident. The report from Chip Towers...

Produced by NFL Films, the longtime show will air weekly on The CW network, launching Aug. 30 at 9 p.m. ET. Belichick will join host Ryan Clark, two-time All-Pro wide receiver Chad Johnson and two-time Super Bowl champion defensive end Chris Long on the show's panel. "I've always appreciated Inside the...
Titans agree to terms with S Jamal Adams
Free agent safety Jamal Adams agreed to terms on a contract with the Tennessee Titans on Thursday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed by the team for Adams, however multiple media outlets reported it was a one-year contract. Adams, 28, will be reunited with Titans defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson. The latter was his defensive backs coach during his Pro Bowl seasons in 2018 and 2019 with the New York Jets. Adams, who also was named to the Pro Bowl in 2020 with the Seattle Seahawks, is expected to battle Amani Hooker and Elijah Molden for one of the starting...
Roger Goodell: NFL disagrees with Sunday Ticket verdict
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Thursday that the league feels "very strongly about our position" and plans to follow the litigation in response to the recent verdict involving DirectTV's Sunday Ticket packages. A Los Angeles jury ordered the NFL last month to pay $4.7 billion in damages to the residential class and $96 million to the commercial class after it voted unanimously that the league, DirecTV, CBS and Fox colluded to increase the price of the game packages. The NFL could be on the hook for billions more, however, because damages are tripled under federal antitrust laws. "We obviously disagree...
WVU's Neal Brown: Big 12 deepest conference 'in the entire country'
Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark proclaimed his league one of the three best in the land earlier this week, and he has at least one football expert in his corner on that statement: West Virginia head coach Neal Brown. Brown, fresh off a 9-4 campaign that validated his program in a lot of outsiders' eyes, resulting in a contract extension and continued show of faith from his administration, knows quite a bit about keeping a chip on his shoulder. Speaking at Big 12 media days in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Brown made the point that both his league and his...
