Deion Sanders likes commitment, work ethic of Buffaloes
Coach Deion Sanders expressed confidence that the right pieces are in place for the Colorado Buffaloes to improve in his second season at the helm, telling reporters Wednesday at Big 12 Media Day he's impressed by the commitment across the board from his new coaching hires and players. "When I see the offensive line and the way they train, the way they work, the way they go about their job," Sanders said when asked what makes him think this year's squad will do better than last year's 4-8 record. "When I see the defensive line coaches and the way they're...
Vikings' Justin Jefferson 'not mad' at Kirk Cousins for departure
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson said he understands quarterback Kirk Cousins' decision to sign with the Atlanta Falcons. Cousins, after all, signed a four-year, $180 million deal with $100 million guaranteed after spending the past six seasons with Minnesota. "I'm not mad at him at all for that," Jefferson said Tuesday on "The Rich Eisen Show." The Vikings addressed Cousins' departure by signing veteran Sam Darnold and selecting J.J. McCarthy with the 10th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. "I always knew that Kirk was going to do whatever he needs to do for (him) business-wise," Jefferson told...

Speaking on Tuesday at the Big 12's media days event in Las Vegas, Yormark outlined his view of the conference's future, which could include private equity investment, playing games on days other than Saturday and re-naming the league. Brett Favre seeks to re-ignite lawsuit against Shannon Sharpe
Brett Favre's legal team was back in court on Tuesday, according to multiple media reports, trying to convince the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans to reinstate the former quarterback's defamation lawsuit against Shannon Sharpe. The case was dismissed by a federal judge in Jackson, Miss., in October. The dispute involves comments Sharpe made on the Fox Sports show "Skip and Shannon: Undisputed" in September 2022. At the time, Favre was at the center of an alleged corruption scandal involving the state of Mississippi's welfare system. Among his broadcast comments, Sharpe said Favre was "taking...

NRG Stadium, home of the Houston Texans, sustained damage from Hurricane Beryl, which has left more than 2 million residents without power and caused deaths in Texas and Louisiana. The hurricane, which made landfall on Monday as a Category 1 with winds whipping over 80 mph, left roads covered in debris and caused flood damage. Arch Manning to appear in ‘College Football 25’ after initial opt-out
Arch Manning changed his mind on whether his likeness would appear in "EA Sports College Football 25." The Texas quarterback and nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning was originally the highest-profile college football player who did not agree to let his likeness be used in the hotly anticipated revival of the video game series, due out later this month. Reports in March said Arch Manning opted out of the potential NIL deal because he wanted to focus on football. All of that was rendered moot Tuesday, when he posted a video with Uncle Eli to social media. The elder Manning pretends to call plays to Arch, who is wearing practice pads but playing the video game. On3 reported that EA Sports paid Arch Manning between $50,000 and $60,000 to promote the game. All players featured in "College Football 25" will receive $600 and a free copy of the game. Manning enters the 2024 season as Texas' backup quarterback behind incumbent Quinn Ewers. --Field Level Media

Former player, Panthers exec Adrian Wilson charged with assault
Adrian Wilson, who was recently dismissed from his position as vice president of player personnel with the Carolina Panthers, was arrested on three domestic violence charges last month, a police spokesperson said Tuesday. The Scottsdale (Ariz.) Police Department said Wilson faces misdemeanor charges of intentional assault causing physical injury, damaging property between $250 and $2,000 and disorderly conduct (disruptive behavior or fighting). Wilson, 44, was arrested at his home just after 6 a.m. on June 1, the spokesperson confirmed to The Athletic on Tuesday. Wilson is a 13-year NFL veteran who played safety for the Arizona Cardinals and spent 2013 with New England, though he was on injured reserve and missed the season. Arizona inducted the five-time Pro Bowl selection and 2009 first-team All-Pro into the Cardinals Ring of Honor in 2015. After working as a scout for the Cardinals and being promoted to vice president of pro scouting in 2021, Wilson joined the Panthers' front office last year. Carolina confirmed on Sunday that Wilson was no longer employed by the organization. The Panthers did not have further comment Tuesday when asked if they had known about Wilson's arrest. --Field Level Media
Cowboys QB Dak Prescott says right ankle is fine
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said there's "absolutely nothing" wrong with his right ankle. Prescott answered questions Tuesday after being spotted in a walking boot while on vacation in Mexico last week. "Honestly, I'm getting older. It's the same ankle that I snapped, and I had a nasty surgery on four years ago so a couple of hard days of training and you know, you get a little sore and you're going on a fishing trip, and you want to protect it and make sure things don't get worse," he told ESPN at his Dallas-area youth football camp. "Literally, it's...

Oklahoma State star running back Ollie Gordon II is not expected to miss any games in the wake of his DUI arrest. "He's going to play," Cowboys coach Mike Gundy told ESPN on Tuesday. Gordon, 20, was arrested on June 30 in Oklahoma on suspicion of DUI and speeding charges. Gundy said he brought Gordon to the Big 12 media day on Tuesday in Las Vegas so he could be accountable for his actions. "I am deeply...

Jaguars DE Josh Allen changes last name to honor family
Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Josh Allen announced Tuesday he wants to be called Joshua Hines-Allen. "I am deciding to change my last name," Allen said in an 82-second video posted to X. "You know, I've always been a Hines, and legacy is forever. Family is important to me because when you come from a rich history of athletic people in your family, and myself being the youngest one, to go to all my sister's games, to know what my uncles did in college and in the NBA, it just means something a little bit more."
