All good things must come to an end, something that Triway's Paul Self found out Friday in the quarterfinals of the Akron Division II District.

After winning his opening match, Self saw his tennis season come to a close with a loss in straight sets to eventual champion Chika Nwaozuzu of Pepper Pike Orange and in the consolation bracket to Hawken's Zach Forte.

Self — the Wooster Sectional runner-up — started the day with an efficient win over CVCA's Alex Cook, winning 6-2, 6-1, before being shut out by Nwaozuzu in the next match. Nwaozuzu went on to claim the district singles championship, beating University School's Dean Kirchick, 6-0, 6-4. It was just the fourth loss of the spring for Self, who won 22 matches.

Also in D-II singles play, Central Christian's Aaron Meidel fell in his opening-round contest with Heartland Christian's Cooper Grim. Grim, winner of the Boardman Sectional, took the match 6-0, 6-1 as Meidel's junior season ended with a 17-4 record.

Wooster's Henry Pozefsky and the doubles team of Brock Ranney and Garrett Ranney also saw their respective seasons end in the D-I district tournament, held at Springside Athletic Club.

Coming in as a fourth seed from the Canton Sectional, Pozefsky ran into a tough first-round contest with Solon's Zach Krantz, falling 6-3, 6-0. Krantz was third overall and one of six state qualifiers for this week's OHSAA state championships at the College of Wooster and Aspen Racquet Club. Henrique Sa of Hudson took the singles title, beating Revere's Finn Keenan in the finals after Keenan retired in the second set.

On the doubles court, the Ranney brothers put up a fight in their match with Hoban's Jack Saly and Jeremy Hammel. In the end, however, the senior Wooster tandem was bested by the Hoban freshman duo in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Westlake's Xander Jhaveri and Rohit Jain won the D-I championship in a three-set thriller, winning 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 over Massillon Jackson's Rohan Sriram and Shi Nagajothi.
