In tribute to veterans and a cherished student, the Wayne County Schools Career Center has a flag park at the entrance of the school that was dedicated in May 2023.

The legacy of Eric J. Miller carries on in a student's dedication to honor Career Center veterans with brick pavers.

Triway graduate and Career Center student Leatha Perman talks about the PFC Eric J. Miller Veterans Memorial Flag Park, describing Miller as “super funny and everyone loved him.”

As one of the remaining criminal justice students who knew Miller, Perman felt she had to carry on his idea and work to ensure anyone who attended the Career Center and served in the military is honored with a brick paver.

Perman’s uncle, Marke Moore, attended the Career Center in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army. Perman had the honor of placing his brick in the flag park. She notes her uncle’s military service is one of her driving forces for taking the Flag Park on as her project during her final year at the Career Center.

The creation of the PFC Eric J. Miller Memorial Veterans Flag Park was a collaborative effort spearheaded by former student Eric Miller and the 2023 WCSCC criminal justice class. The park features a display of flags, landscaping and commemorative bricks.

The bricks that surround the park honor WCSCC alumni who served the country. Each brick paver includes the alumni's name, graduation year and branch of service.

Any WCSCC alumni wishing to have a brick at the flag park should contact Warren Caskey, criminal justice instructor, at wcaskey@wcscc.org.
