    Come celebrate Killbuck's 150th birthday at Early American Days during Labor Day weekend

    With Holmes County in the midst of its yearlong 200th anniversary celebration, the village of Killbuck is celebrating its 150th birthday during the annual Early American Days Festival.

    The fun kicks of Friday night with an Our Town Killbuck presentation by the Holmes County Historical Society.

    The event takes place at the Duncan Theater , commemorating 150 years of Killbuck. Visitors are invited to take their stories and items of historical significance from Killbuck to share at the free evening of fun and memories.

    Concessions will be available for purchase.

    Saturday starts with a 5k run and fun walk along Main Street at 8 a.m. A softball tournament will be held at the Killbuck Park and a pickleball tournament will be held at Burgetts Insurance at 9 a.m.

    The Killbuck Museum on Front Street opens at 10 a.m. and the Killbuck School reunion takes place at Killbuck Elementary School.

    A kiddie tractor pull and the queen contest are set for noon and the expanded kids area complete with a bounce house also opens at noon. The queen contest will be held at noon at Duncan Theater.

    Erica Ash, one of the event coordinators, said there will be a new stage set up on Front Street between the hardware store and Duncan Theater. There will be a Dino Roar presentation with shows at 1 and 3 p.m.. The Holmes County Dog warden will have a presentation at 2 p.m.

    The new firetruck will be on display at 2:30 p.m. and gospel/country music performer John Schmid will take the stage at 4:30; classic rockers SOBOS will perform at 7 p.m.

    Sunday schedule of events

    The queens brunch takes place Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and a community church service will be held at 10:30 a.m.

    The VFW chicken barbecue begins at noon and The Branches will perform on the main stage at noon as well. A puppet show will take place at the Killbuck Community Library at 1 p.m.

    The grand parade steps off on Main Street at 2 p.m. followed by a cruise-in and car show at 3 p.m. The West Holmes marching band will perform on Main Street following the car show, and the 150th birthday party will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on the main stage.

    "Our theme this year is Killbuck's 150th birthday," Ash said. "We're planning a big birthday party for that, with cake and ice cream and party favors."

    Congressman Troy Balderson and Killbuck native Holmes County Commissioner Dave Hall will be the guest speakers.

    Ash noted there will be a moment of silence to honor the recent loss of Killbuck Township Fire and EMS Chief Scott Kashuba.

    Kids activities and a cake walk will follow, with the Sundown Band wrapping up scheduled activities at 7 p.m. on the main stage.
