On a night when most games were beset by storms and even hailstones, the Greene Central baseball team didn't take notice of the weather.

The unbeaten Rams (23-0) ran over South Lenoir, 5-0, on Friday night in the second round of the 2A state playoffs. Top-seeded Greene Central will host No. 8 Bunn in Tuesday's third round.

The game against the No. 16 Blue Devils was a nail-biter for a while, scoreless until GC plated a single run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Rams then tacked on four big insurance runs in the sixth and out-hit South Lenoir 10-5.

The offense was more than enough for senior Braden Burress, who struck out four and walked two in a seven-inning shutout.

At the plate, Burress was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Will Radford was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Cameron Taylor added two hits, and Brady Anderson and Easton Creech also drove in runs in the win.

Bunn (17-7) advanced to the third round by winning a pair of 4-3 games. The Wildcats outlasted No. 25 Northwood in 10 innings in the opening round, then ousted No. 24 Nash Central by the same score on Friday night.

    Midway 9, Farmville Central 5

The No. 13 Jaguars held leads of 1-0 and 4-2, but they could not withstand a six-run fifth by the Raiders and saw their season come to an end.

No. 4 Midway pounded out 13 hits to Farmville's eight.

The Jags finished the season 14-8.

    Camden County 10, Ayden-Grifton 0 (6 inn.)

The No. 1 seed Bruins (19-2) put an end to the Chargers' season on Friday night in a six-inning shutout.

Camden County out-hit the Chargers by a count of 11-5.

    A-G finished the season 11-10.
