Snow Hill police said that officers recovered a toy firearm as they tracked a suspect in a Friday morning robbery.

About 3:20 a.m., Snow Hill Police Department officers were dispatched to the Speedway gas station at 1102 Kingold Blvd., the department said. Greene County Sheriff’s Office deputies also responded to the scene.

At the store, a clerk told police a black male in a black hooded sweatshirt and mask entered the store and demanded money. Police said that the suspect took the cash register drawer and left the scene on foot.

A Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit was called to assist and led officers northwest before a dog ended its track in the area of Gregory Avenue, which connects Kingold Boulevard and Southeast Third Street, police said.

The register drawer was recovered during the track along with a black toy gun. Police said that the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information was asked to contact the department at 560-9022 or shpd@snowhillnc.com.
