    Golden K Kiwanis

    The Golden K Kiwanis Greenville will host Angie Nichols, a new member and executive director of Carolina Pregnancy Center, at its meeting at 10 a.m. today. The Golden K Kiwanis has launched its website, goldenk2024.org, which contains up-to-date information on the first Golden K Kiwanis Club in the world. The Greenville Golden K Kiwanis meets at the Masonic Hall, 1104 Charles St. All are welcome. For more information, call 367-8310 or goldenk2024.org.

    August Book Club

    The Farmville Public Library will host an August Book Club meeting from 2-3 p.m. today at 4276 W. Church St. Book Club is celebrating book-to-movie adaptations. August’s book is “Angels and Demons” by Dan Brown. A screening of the movie will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

    Schools open house

    Pitt County Schools will host open house events Thursday prior to the start of the school year on Monday. Parents and students are invited to visit campuses, meet teachers and receive transportation information. Elementary schools will be open from 4-6:30 p.m., K-8 schools and middle schools from 5-7:30 p.m. and high schools from 6-8:30 p.m. Visit pitt.k12.nc.us.

    Watermelon Festival

    The Winterville Watermelon Festival will be held Thursday-Sunday at the Winterville Recreation Park, 332 Sylvania St. The annual event includes carnival rides, a parade, a watermelon-eating contest, food and games. The Watermelon Jam, a ticketed event, will be held from 5-10 p.m. Saturday and will feature Grand Funk Railroad.

    Candlelight Concert series

    Fever’s Candlelight Concert series will come to Greenville this month with performances Friday at The Memorial Baptist Church, 1510 S.E. Greenville Blvd. The 6:30 p.m. program will feature Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” and other works. “A Tribute to Taylor Swift” concert is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Additional performances in the series are scheduled Oct. 26. Concert tickets are $25.68 and may be purchased at feverup. com/m/185634.

    Starry Night

    The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences at Contentnea Creek, 949 Contentnea Lane, Grifton, will host Starry Night at 8 p.m. Friday. The event will include glimpses of distant galaxies, planets, and stars, guided by experts. Tickets are $5. This event may be hampered or canceled by a variety of weather conditions.     Bluey and Bingo

    Farmville Public Library, 4276 W. Church St., will host “Meet Bluey and Bingo” at 10 and 11 a.m. Saturday. The characters will read a story, play Keepy Uppy with participants, lead a dance party and pose for photos. Free. Visit farmvillelibrary.org.

    Back-to-school event

    School Daze, a back-to-school event, will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Eppes Recreation Center, 400 Nash St. The free event will offer sports physicals, haircut vouchers, school supplies, food, a youth resource fair, giveaways and mental health screenings.     NAMI Pitt County Pride

    NAMI Pitt County’s 4th Annual Pride event is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Greenville Town Common, 105 E. First St. The event will celebrate with live entertainment, education, vendors, raffles, food trucks, and more.
