Letters: Firearms ordinance needed; JFK, RFK, MLK, look away; Radical, not conservative; Decisions, decisions; Historic shenanigans

    Firearms ordinance needed

Support for a firearm ordinance for Pitt County is reasonable and necessary. City residents have Section 12-1-3 of the city code to address the irresponsible use of firearms. County residents have no protections at present.

The Pitt County 2021 Firearm Ordinance that was not passed at that time needs to be reconsidered. It provides for setbacks from homes, schools churches, businesses and property lines consistent with those applicable to hunters, providing a measure of safety and noise control.

It restricts fired ammunition to remaining on the shooter's own property. It restricts most discharging of weapons to daylight hours when the path of a projectile is visible. It provides a legal for actions to be taken when the ordinance is not followed.

It does not take away anyone's right to own or use a firearm in a safe manner, showing consideration to the hearing, safety and sleep of others.

Citizens should contact their county commissioner (go to pittcountync.gov to find out your representative's name and contact information) to support a firearm ordinance which protects the 85,000 county residents who currently have no protections from unreasonable discharging of firearms.

Voice your support by going to the Board of Commissioners meeting at the Pitt County Office Building, 1717 W. Fifth St., at 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16.

    JFK, RFK, MLK, look away

What has happened to today's Democratic Party? Would JFK, RFK and MLK be welcome? The short answer is no. Here's why.

President John Kennedy was a bonafide war hero. He did not have to enhance his service with "stolen valor" claims like Tampon Tim (vice presidential nominee Tim Walz) and Sen. Bloomingidiot (U.S. Sen. Tim Blumenthal). Kennedy spent much of his fighting against Socialism and Communism. Today's Democratic Party is embracing Socialism.

Robert F. Kennedy was known as the law and order attorney general. He took on the mafia and crime bosses to make America a safer place. Today, the Mexican cartels control the border because of Democratic policies are bringing killer drugs, human bondage and possibly the next 9-11 to the homeland.

Martin Luther King was all about equality. In his famous speech, he said a person should judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. Biden had two criteria for a running mate, race and gender. Meritocracy was not considered. Equity is the polar opposite of equality.

Dr. King once told a man who was gay that he should seek psychiatric help. Do you think he would have approved of irreversible mutilation of children with identity disorders?

The corrupt media will not show today's Democratic platform. It is unbelievable. The icons would not be welcome.

    Radical, not conservative

MAGAs say they are the conservatives. Really?

Clearly they don’t believe the Declaration’s “truth” that everyone’s created equal. They attack citizens for their gender orientation and racial origins. The Declaration and Constitution side with those fighting to preserve equality of rights. They are the conservatives.

MAGAs believe democracy’s time is up. “Project 2025” would replace majority rule with a Christian autocracy. Christian nationalists see equality of rights as a threat. They claim their religion is under attack in order to use their beliefs as weapons against human rights that do not suit their worldview. Those fighting to preserve democracy and church-state separation are conservatives.

MAGAs’ contempt for democracy is clear in red states’ voter suppression. The claim that they’re protecting election integrity rings false as they support the bogus claim that the 2020 election was stolen. Vote recounts and 60 court cases proved them wrong. But that didn’t stop the purging of voter rolls, restricting places and times for voting, and even denying water to those waiting to vote. Voting is the soul of democracy. Those fighting for ready access to the ballot box are conservatives.

MAGAs must think that calling themselves conservative makes them righteous, but they are radicals. The anti-Trumpers — fighting to protect the equality proclaimed in the Declaration and to preserve democracy defined in the Constitution — are the righteous conservatives.

    Decisions, decisions

Alright, the conventions are behind us and if folks remain undecided they're not paying very close attention. Not just to the conventions themselves, they're expected to be giant pep rallies, no surprises there.

What did surprise me this year was the moronic running diatribe from the former president while Vice President Harris was making her acceptance speech. I thought it was a joke when I read the nonsensical word salad in the morning. This should be a reminder of his past Chaos administration. How many times did you wake up wondering what this idiot did overnight?

    The decision should be clear.

    Historic shenanigans

Well folks, 14 million primary voters just saw their vote neutralized by the cabal of Obama, Pelosi and Schumer as they pushed aside Biden. So, we now have by them an anointed Democratic nominee who did not win a primary vote!

Should the Democrats win the election, do you really think she is going to run the country? There is an adage, "You can fool some of the people part of the time, you can fool all the people part of the time, but you can't fool all the people all the time." We are in the third term of Obama now. Does the county want a fourth or fifth?

Never in the nation's history have such shenanigans occurred where a sitting president is pushed aside. It is agreed he was a puppet to the left and now we have a lightweight puppet as the nominee of the Democratic Party.

This is a critical time for the nation as we have a potential catastrophe sitting on our doorstep. Hopefully, the nation gets its act together in November and puts us back on the right track.
