There will be magic, mischief and music in the air next week as “Matilda: The Musical” opens in Snow Hill.

The Kids on Stage presentation will begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 11-12 at Greene County Wellness Center, 84 N. Perry Drive. Additional matinee performances are scheduled for 2 p.m. Oct. 12 and 3 p.m. Oct. 13.

Inspired by the novel by Roald Dahl, Tony Award-winning “Matilda: The Musical” features music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and a book by Dennis Kelly.

It tells the story of Matilda Wormwood, a precocious 5-year-old girl with the gift of telekinesis. Unloved by her parents, she impresses her schoolteacher Miss Honey with her love of reading and creating her own stories. But Matilda faces opposition from the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, who hates children and just loves to punish those who don’t abide by her rules.

In standing up to the cruelty she faces, Matilda discovers her own powers.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for children. Visit gckidsonstage.org.
