    NPHC lines up candidates for forum

    The National Pan-Hellenic Council of Pitt County will hold a forum on Friday featuring candidates for several state and local offices.

    The nonpartisan forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Drew Steele Center, 1058 S. Elm St. Candidates scheduled to appear include:

    Gheorghe Cormos (Libertarian) for U.S. House 3Walter “Vinny” Smith (Constitution Party) and Micheal “Wayne” Turner (Green Party) for governorRobert “Bob” Drach (Libertarian) for state auditorMichelle Morrow (R) for state schools superintendentCarolyn Thompson (D) for state Court of AppealsAlexander Paschall (R) and Kandie Smith (D) for state Senate 5Gloristine Brown (D) for state House 8Claire Kempner (D) and Timothy Reeder (R) for state House 9Jeffrey Foster (R) for Pitt County Superior Court judgeWendy Hazelton (D) Pitt County District CourtMac Manning, (D) Pitt Board of Commissioners District CDesha Nichelle Lane Pitt Board of Education District 4Worth Forbes and Erin Kessel Pitt Board of Education District 6Benjie Forrest and Jennifer Matthews Pitt Board of Education District 8

    (Board of Education seats are elected on a nonpartisan basis.)

    The National Pan-Hellenic Council, the “Divine Nine,” includes Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, in order of founding.

    The Pitt County president is Najiyyah “Gia” Lewis.
