    Quincy rolls past Union City in Big 8 softball battle

    QUINCY – The Quincy Oriole softball team swatted their way to a two-game sweep over rival Union City on Tuesday, winning by scores of 11-2 and 13-0.

    The night belonged to Quincy from the opening pitch, as the Orioles outscored Union City 24-2 in the two-game sweep, while also out hitting the visiting Chargers 22-3 over the two-game stretch.

    Game one saw Quincy open up a 6-0 lead they would never relinquish on the way to an 11-2 win.

    Quincy scored a run in the second, five in the third inning, two in the fifth and three in the sixth for their 11 runs, while Union City countered with a run in the fifth and a run in the sixth inning.

    Danika Skirka took the win on the mound for Quincy, throwing seven full innings, allowing three hits and two runs with three walks and five strikeouts in the win.

    Kaylee Modert, Josie Mescher, Alyssa Mccavitt, and Deziray Skirka all had multiple hits in the game while Skirka and Nakeisha Baker both had triples. Mikayla Feltner led the way with two RBIs while Payton Gross also added a pair of RBIs in the win.

    Karlie Eagen took the loss on the mound for Union City after pitching six innings while allowing 14 hits and 11 runs, 10 earned, with three walks and two strikeouts.

    Aislynn Phelps led Union City’s offensive attack with a triple and a single with a run scored while Emily Delisle added a single. Madison Krummrey and Hannah Schofield each chipped in with RBIs in the tough loss.

    Game two was all Quincy from the opening pitch as the Orioles used five RBIs from Modert to pull away quickly and never look back on their way to the 13-0 win.

    Modert finished 3-for-3 with two triples, five RBIs and two runs scored to lead the offensive attack.

    Josie Mescher also knocked a triple to go with two RBIs and two runs scored while Gross, Skirka, Miley Pointdexter, and Hannah Brown all had singles. Danika Skirka, Pointdexter, Mescher, Gross and Modert all had RBIs.

    Payton Gross took the win on the mound for Quincy in the weather shortened win, pitching a single innings.

    Karlie Eagen took the loss for Union City on the mound, allowing eight hits and 13 runs in jsut over an inning pitched. Eagen walked five batters.

    No Chargers were able to reach base in the loss.

    With the sweep Quincy improves to 13-10 overall on the season while the Chargers fall to 4-19. Union City will see action again on Friday when they host Comstock while Quincy will face off versus Hastings, all in a non-conference clash.
