COLDWATER – The Coldwater Cardinal baseball team celebrated the elder statesman of the team with Senior Night Thursday night as the Cardinals faced off with Lakewood in non-conference double-header action at Pat Lowe Field.

Coldwater battled tough but dropped the two matchups, falling in game one 8-3 and again in game two 10-2.

Game one was a back-and-forth affair, with the score tied at 3-3 after five innings. That would not last long as Lakewood hit a deep shot to centerfield to push the Vikings into the lead thanks to a four run sixth inning. Lakewood added a single run in the seventh to find the final score of 8-3.

Lakewood out hit Coldwater 10-6 in the game and took advantage of three fielding errors.

Owen Tappenden took the tough loss on the mound for Coldwater after throwing three innings and a third, allowing three hits and three runs, with three walks and six strikeouts.

Brady Massey led the Coldwater offense as the only player with a multi-hit game, as Massey went 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI.

Brayden Lackey added a double with a run scored while Coletin Calhoun, Landon Auble, and Lucas Wischmeyer each had a single. Wischmeyer added an RBI and a run scored in the loss.

Game two saw Lakewood out slug a potent Coldwater offense enroute to a game two decision of 10-2 in favor of the Vikings.

Lakewood jumped out early, scoring two runs in the first inning, one in the second, two in the third, four in the fourth and one in the sixth, while Coldwater scored a run in the fourth and one in the seventh to find the final score of 10-2. Coldwater actually out hit Lakewood 7-6, but four fielding errors proved to be too difficult for the Cardinals to overcome.

Evan Porter was the lone Cardinal to notch more than one hit, as the Cardinal centerfielder finished 2-for-4 with two singles and a run scored.

Drake Thornton added a double and an RBI to the Cardinal lineup while Ethan Parker, Brady Massey, and Coletin Calhoun all managed singles. Lackey scored a run for the Cardinals.
