BRONSON – The Bronson Viking softball team defended home field on Saturday as the Vikings took the championship of their annual Polish Classic with wins over Colon and Marshall.

“It was a good day today. We started off a little slow, but we were able to pick it up the second game where we beat a good Marshall team and hit the ball well,” Bronson coach Becky Gray said. “I feel like we are making good progress right now and moving in the right direction heading into districts.”

Bronson started their tournament championship run with an opening win over the Colon Magi 8-3.

Mya Webb was the winning pitcher for Bronson after throwing all seven innings and allowing five hits and three runs, only one earned, with one walk and four strikeouts.

Ashlynn Harris led the Bronson offensive effort with a 3-for-4 performance, belting out a single and two triples with two RBIs and a stolen base.

Ciara Blankenship finished the game at 2-for-3 and was a menace on the basepaths, stealing five bases in the game.

Braelynn Gimenez also added two singles to go with one RBI, while Brealyn Lasky, Kailynne Scare and Webb all added singles. Webb also chipped in an RBI.

With the victory Bronson moved on to the championship of their home classic to face the Marshall Redhawks. It was all Bronson from start to finish in the championship finale as the Vikings routed Marshall, winning by the score of 15-1.

Harris took the win on the mound in the championship after pitching all five innings and allowing five hits and one run with four walks and seven strikeouts.

Harris helped her own cause, finishing a perfect 3 for-3 at the plate with three singles and two stolen bases while Lasky added a 3-for-4 effort, notching three singles and four RBIs.

Lydia Wells packed the big bat for Bronson, going 2-for-4 with a home run and a double.

Also adding to the Viking win was Blankenship with a single, two RBIs and a stolen base; Roni Bir with two singles and a stolen base; Scare with a single and a stolen base; and Delanee Carpenter with a single and an RBI, while Webb and Gimenez each added a single.

With the weekend effort, Bronson improves to 21-9 overall on the season and will get back to work on Monday when it travels to Niles Brandywine.
