If you're looking for one of the most unique and historical spots in San Pedro, California, this location will blow you away! Located on the West Coast about 25 miles south of Los Angeles, there is a small portion of land near the cliffs dubbed "Sunken City," by locals. The area is littered with foundations and streets that once made connected Paseo Del Mar to Pacific avenue.

In 1929, a landslide occurred which wiped out houses, streets, and businesses from the area. Even some of the remaining houses after the landslide were relocated due to safety concerns. At a certain point, the land movement of this small area was reported to be an incredible 11 inches per day.

As tempting as it may be to try to gain access to the Sunken City, it's best to admire it from afar. The area is marked off with "no trespassing" signs to keep anyone out. For those who choose to hop the fences and investigate the Sunken City up close and in person, they will be given a $450 fine for entering the restricted space.

Even with a hefty fine and the dangers of the location, many adventurous travelers have made the trip to Sunken City. In fact, so many people try to get into Sunken City that the LA Fire Dept has to rescue someone from a fall almost weekly.

Also good to note- the residents of the community are quick to report trespassers in Sunken City, due to home break-ins, tumultuous partying, and gigantic fires that plagued their area. So please, if you plan on visiting Sunken City, follow the law and view it from afar.

This is a really cool place where people come and spray paint on the rocks. It doesn't look tacky and it's a peaceful area . I am still going to go there and sit on the rocks and enjoy the beautiful view. For those who are burglarizing the homes..... shame on you cuz you have ruined the chance for others who want to explore the historical place called Sunken City.
