PUNTA GORDA — The Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center is seeking volunteers for the nation’s largest volunteer event, held locally at Alligator Creek in Punta Gorda.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Sept. 28, volunteers will participate in National Public Lands Day.

“Volunteers will assist with various select projects around the park such as installing bat boxes, tree plantings and invasive plant removal,” a news release stated.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands. It’s also a fee-free day where entrance fees are waived at national parks and public land.
