    Debby insured losses near $120 million

    With about 39 percent of claims closed, Hurricane Debby had caused about $119.5 million in estimated insured losses as of Friday, according to data posted on the state Office of Insurance Regulation website.

    The data showed that 18,098 claims had been filed from Debby, which made landfall Aug. 5 as a Category 1 hurricane near Steinhatchee in Taylor County, before moving across rural North Florida.

    The majority of claims, 11,480, involved residential property, while others involved damage to such things as cars and commercial property.

    The data showed that 3,270 claims had been closed with payments made, while 3,808 had been closed without payments.
