VENICE — Because of extensive damage to the Venice Municipal Airport, it will remain closed until it is in working condition.

Airport tenants who want to see their property will have to follow a city schedule to get an escorted visit.

“Unfortunately, the airport has received substantial wind damage, and there is dangerous debris widespread across the airfield,” a Venice city Facebook post stated. “The airport will need to remain closed until this debris can be cleared and the area made safe for aviation and public traffic.”

A contractor will be at the airport Friday to begin clearing the debris. Further, representatives from the city’s insurance carrier, Synergy, will begin giving the airport a formal evaluation.

This is the same company that helped the airport rebuild after Hurricane Ian.

As for the airport’s tenants, the airport staff will set up a time to provided escorted visits so the tenants can see their property.

“We understand how important it is for our tenants to obtain access to the airfield to assess the potential damage to their property,” the social media post stated. "Thank you all for your patience and understanding during this challenging recovery period.”
