NORTH PORT — North Port City Manager Jerome Fletcher was appointed to a leadership position with the Florida League of Cities.

He will serve on the 2024-25 Municipal Operations Committee. It is one of the League’s five Legislative Policy Committees.

Legislative Policy Committee chairs and other members were appointed by Michael C. Blake, the mayor of Cocoa and League president, according to a news release.

According to city staff, Fletcher will help develop the League’s legislative platform. It details important issues that are likely to impact daily city governance and decision-making.

He will also help League staff understand “real-world implications” of proposals, according to a city news release.

Fletcher, like the other Committee members will, too, be asked to advocate local decision-making during the legislative process.

“The decisions made in Tallahassee can have a significant impact on local communities, so I am honored to be chosen to represent the City of North Port and other Florida cities and share our perspective on legislative issues at the state level,” Fletcher stated. “I look forward to continuing to help the Florida League of Cities fulfill its mission of advocating for local governments and home rule.”
