ADRIAN — Police are investigating why a man shot himself Wednesday morning in a medical office building in Adrian.

Police were dispatched at 10:52 a.m. to a report of a shots being fired at the Grace Christman Medical Building, Adrian Deputy Police Chief Larry Van Alstine said in a news release. Adrian officers and Lenawee County sheriff's deputies arrived to find that a man had entered an office on the second floor of the building, shot himself once and died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The officers and deputies conducted a protective sweep of the rest of the facility to ensure that there was no further threat to anyone present and located no additional threats, Van Alstine said. No staff or other visitors were injured, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety directly related to this incident.

The investigation into why the subject chose this location to shoot himself is ongoing, Van Alstine said.

Police did not release the name of the man who shot himself.

The Christman Building is on Kimole Lane, behind the closed Bixby Hospital, and includes the ProMedica Hickman Cancer Center.
