Vote for the Lenawee County Preseason Football Player of the Year
By Kristopher Lodes, The Daily Telegram,
2 days agoIt's a new day in Lenawee County football as there are a handful of new coaches around, but there will also be new leaders emerging on the gridiron itself.
Tecumseh's AJ Bryan , Clinton's Nik Shadley , Adrian's Jaden Jankowski and Lenawee Christian's Sam Lutz took home the Daily Telegram's top honors last season and all have graduated.
Here's a look at who is returning and could be filling those spots this season as we meet the nominees for Daily Telegram Preseason Football Player of the Year. Make your vote at the bottom:
Sr. Gunnar Demeuse, Addison
The Panthers graduated a number of key players from their 9-0 season a year ago, which led the state in points per game. Demeuse is back however and Addison is sure to look to get the ball in his hands.
Sr. Josh Ray, Addison
Ray could be a threat to lead the area in picks if opposing Cascade Conference quarterbacks throw his way. He'll also be one of the Panthers' feature backs as they look to defend their league title.
Sr. Thomas Dayharsh, Adrian
The Maples lose four-year staring quarterback, Sean Parker, but whoever fills Parker's shoes will still have a go-to target in Dayharsh. Dayharsh is the only First Team receiver or tight end back from a season and in 2022 he sit the Lenawee County single-season record in receiving yards in a game with 243 yards.
Sr. Chase Henline, Adrian
Henline was the Maples top runner a season ago and is only looking to improve on those marks this season. With a new quarterback directing the offense in Adrian, Henline will get plenty of work out of the backfield.
Sr. Antonio Brown, Adrian
Brown will be one of the Maples' leaders returning from back-to-back playoff appearances. Brown could be among the top tacklers at linebacker, but he's also a receiving and running threat on offense.
Sr. Kassidy Lenz, Blissfield
Lenz is a dual-threat back with speed and strength, making him a pain to bring down. He'll be the Royals' workhorse as they look to make a return trip to the playoffs this season.
Sr. Kipp Fisher, Blissfield
Fisher is back as the Royals' middle linebacker and will look to lead Blissfield back into the playoffs. He's sure to be one of the top tacklers around and is also going to get his hands on the ball on offense a bit.
Sr. Jacob Felts, Clinton
The Redwolves always have a number of threats out of the backfield and Felts is going to be up there among the county leaders in rushing. He's always sure to be in on a lot tackles as he hopes to keep Clinton's dominate LCAA run going.
Jr. Bryce Randolph, Clinton
Randolph is going to be threat for both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year. Along with Felts, Randolph is going to be a feature back, but he's also the Redwolves' middle linebacker and looking to lead Clinton to third-straight LCAA title.
Sr. Andy Fair, Clinton
Clinton has become a little more balanced on offense thanks to Fair's ability to throw. He will be directing the Redwolves' offense while also playing a strong defensive back position.
Sr. Brennan Marshall, Hudson
Marshall was a First Team All-County selection at running back a season ago and is the lone returning First Team back from a season ago. The Tigers are known for their dominate run game and Marshall will be the lead back coming into the season.
Sr. Beckett McCaskey, Hudson
Alongside Marshall all last season was McCaskey as the duo created quite the 1-2 punch out of the backfield for the Tigers. This season won't be different as both could be threats for postseason honors.
Sr. Jacob Pickford, Hudson
Pickford was one of the leading tacklers from a season ago and that shouldn't change this season. He'll be leading the always tough Tigers defense as they look poised for another deep run this fall.
Sr. Brenner Powers, Lenawee Christian
Powers looks to be next in line of a long list of great Cougars quarterbacks. Of the bunch, Powers could be the biggest running threat with top speed and he'll look to guide LCS back to the Superior Dome.
Jr. Brian Dopp, Madison
Dopp had some big throwing games a season ago and is a threat to run the ball as well. He'll be up against a tough LCAA, but if he can put up strong numbers against his strong competition, the Trojans could be in line for a turnaround season.
Sr. JT Hill, Onsted
Hill is one of the most athletic kids around Lenawee County and the Wildcats are going to get the ball in his hands one way or another. If Onsted has a turnaround season, Hill is going to be a major part of it.
Sr. Griffin Amthor, Onsted
The Wildcats are hoping to turn some their close losses from a season ago into wins as the program looks to turn a corner. Amthor will be a key piece of the that puzzle in the secondary and at wide receiver.
Jr. Ivan Wilkinson, Sand Creek
The Aggies have a number of returning athletes as they look to take the Big 8 Conference by storm in their first season after moving from the TCC. Wilkinson is a pure athlete and will lead Sand Creek out of the backfield.
Sr. Tyler Clement, Tecumseh
Clement came on strong at the tail end of 2023 when he transitioned to quarterback. Tecumseh flourished with him under center and will look to guide Tecumseh to three-straight playoff appearances this season.
