    Lenawee County sports from Aug. 19-24

    It's a brand-new school year and it gets underway this week with the 2024-25 high school sports season.

    Boys soccer, boys tennis, girls golf, volleyball and cross country are all playing regular season games this week to kickoff the new year.

    Here's how Week 1 turned out:

    MONDAY

    Boys Soccer

    Grass Lake 2, Tecumseh 1

    GRASS LAKE — A late goal was the difference as Tecumseh dropped its opener in a non-conference road match.

    Charlie Palmer had Tecumseh's lone goal on a penalty kick in the second half to go up 1-0. Grass Lake tied it up with eight minutes to go and then got the winner with two minutes to go.

    Jonesville 4, Onsted 3

    JONESVILLE — The Wildcats opened their season on the road despite a fierce comeback.

    Onsted trailed 4-0 before Beltran Galvez got a hat trick to pull the team within one, but it couldn't get the equalizer.

    Manchester 2, Clinton 0

    MANCHESTER — The Redwolves opened their season with a stiff challenge against the Flying Dutchmen, but came out with a loss.

    Boys Tennis

    Adrian Quad

    The Maples hosted Jackson Northwest, Walled Lake and Dexter on the day, going 0-3.

    Adrian lost 5-3 to both Jackson Northwest and Walled Lake before getting shutout by the Dreadnaughts. Grant Garza got a pair of singles wins while Harrison Boyd and Carter Howard and Nathan Leonard and Colton Chase each had a pair of doubles wins.

    TUESDAY

    Boys Soccer

    Adrian 5, Hillsdale 0

    ADRIAN — The Maples didn't have to wait long to get first-year head coach Scott Leake is first victory as they beat Hillsdale in non-conference play to open the season.

    Nathan Wojick and Carter Allen each had two goals while Taysean Thomas had one. Santiago Bernal and two assists while Mohamed Ouail had one and Gary Kemerer posted a shutout.

    Girls Golf

    Adrian Invite

    The Maples won their home invite to open season as they shot a 380 at Woodlawn Golf Course.

    Tecumseh placed fourth with a round of 527.

    Cassidy Hawken was the medalist with an 84 while Madison Thomas was second at 93 and Ryan Kominek took fifth at 97. Megan Schutte was ninth at 106.
