    Lenawee County sports roundup from Sept. 23-28

    September is winding down and the fall sports season is nearing the halfway point to the season, some sports are even past the halfway point.

    Here's how the week of Sept. 23-28 is playing out.

    MONDAY

    County golf championship: Adrian girls golf three-peats, Cassidy Hawken repeats as county champions

    Boys Soccer

    Adrian 1, Tecumseh 0

    ADRIAN — Nathan Wojcik scored the game's lone goal off an assist from Taysean Thomas as the Maples topped their SEC White rival.

    Gary Kemerer made six saves in the shutout. Tecumseh, which played its first game in nine days after taking last week off with the sudden death of one of their teammates Jude Broussard, played tough in one of its closest games of the season.

    Blissfield 2, Dundee 1

    BLISSFIELD — The Royals picked up a second-straight LCAA win against the Vikings after finishing last week up at Dundee with a win.

    Blake Wood and Evan Vore had the goals while Matt Seiser had an assist in the win. Blissfield is 4-5-2 overall and 3-2-2 in league play.

    Ida 3, Clinton 0

    CLINTON — The Redwolves fell in LCAA play to give the Bluestreaks a firm grip on first play in the league.

    Clinton (8-6-1 overall) is 5-2-1 in LCAA play.

    TUESDAY

    Volleyball

    Clinton 3, Dundee 0

    DUNDEE — The Redwolves went to Dundee and took control of the LCAA with a sweep of the Vikings, 26-16, 25-15, 25-22.

    Both teams entered the match unbeaten in LCAA play and Kaylee Kranz stepped up with 20 kills while Lauren Sheneman had 15 kills, Avery Loftis had 39 assists and Brailey Gibson had 14 digs.

    Tecumseh Quad

    Tecumseh kept rolling with three more match wins to improve to 27-1 on the season against Summerfield, 25-19, 25-15, Ann Arbor Pioneer, 25-20, 25-14, and Britton Deerfield, 25-5, 25-12.

    Emma Eldred had 23 kills and four blocks, Alli Zajac had 18 kills, Maddy VanBlack had 15 kills and 12 digs, Chloe Bullinger had 22 digs and five aces and Lily Gnodtke had 43 assists.

    Adrian was also at the meet and went 1-2 with a win against BD, 25-9, 25-12, and losses to Jackson Lumen Christi, 25-17, 25-21, and Summerfield, 26-24, 25-18.

    Ella Salenbien had 21 kills and 20 digs, Addy Martolock had 14 kills and Caroline Hofflander had 10 kills. Ashley Condon had 21 assists while Aubrey Zuvers had 17 assists and Jaeden Wetzel had 23 digs and Edynn Eichorn had 13 digs.

    Lenawee Christian 3, Sand Creek 2

    ADRIAN — The Cougars outlasted the Aggies in the TCC matchup as they won 21-25, 25-18, 25-12, 16-25, 16-14.

    Tory Swiggum had 12 kills while Callie Anderson had 11 and Ava Feick had eight to lead LCS. Ila Stewart had 35 digs and four aces while Leah Sherman had five aces.

    The Aggies had Maddie Osburn lead with seven kills, six digs, four assists and three aces while Hailey Bennett had 18 digs, three assists and two aces and Carly Allen had 11 assists, five digs and three aces. Lainey Johnston had six blocks.

    Madison 3, Hillsdale 0

    MADISON TWP. — The Trojans picked up an LCAA win as they swept the Hornets, 28-26, 25-20, 25-14.

    Lily Pharion had a huge match with 25 kills and nine while Kianna McKinney had 25 digs and Ja'Kara Rincon had 32 assists.

    Blissfield 3, Hudson 1

    BLISSFIELD — The Royals got the LCAA win in four sets against the Tigers, 25-15, 26-24, 12-25, 26-24.

    Blissfield is 4-3 in league play while Hudson got eight kills and three blocks from Naika Rath, 11 digs, four kills and three aces from Brooke Clark, seven kills from Lena Leyva, 11 digs, five kills and two aces from Jewel Sinclair and Rihanna Ramirez had 10 digs.

    Cascades Tri at Hanover Horton

    HANOVER — Addison split a pair of Cascades Conference matches as the Panthers beat Homer, 25-22, 25-13, 22-25, 25-16 and lost to Hanover Horton, 25-12, 25-12, 25-13.

    Molly Brown had 36 kills and 23 digs while Hailey Marsee had 53 assists and Ava Beard had 22 digs.

    Cross Country

    SEC White Jamboree at Jackson

    The Adrian girls took first overall with three of the top-four places while the boys took second with Moises Salazar winning the race.

    On the girls side, the Maples had 34 points led by Ayda Skeels in second (18:38.2) followed by Sophy Skeels (18:53.5) and Madison Petty (19:32.3). Pinckney was second with 53 points while Tecumseh took fourth (75).

    For the boys, Salazar won with a time of 15:51.6 to led Adrian with 56 to trail Pinckney's 31 while Tecumseh took fourth (96). Adrian's Carter Fenner was fourth (17:12.8) while Tecumseh's Harrison Stamper took seventh (17:36.1) and Eli Morris took 10th (17:50.1).

    TCC Jamboree at Summerfield

    PETERSBURG — Lenawee Christian's Izzy Brooks took first overall while the Cougars' Joel Lange took second on the boys side at the second TCC jamboree of the season.

    Brooks ran 20:07.76 to lead the pack with Britton Deerfield's Aubrey Appleman behind at 21:07.34 and Madalynn Trame of Sand Creek was fifth (22:35.23). Whiteford won with 42 points while Erie Mason was second (48) followed by Sand Creek (65) and Summerfield (68).

    On the boys side, Lange ran 17:47.47 to finish 14.70 behind Erie Mason's Austin Sulier. Sand Creek's Silas Daniels was fourth (18:01.72) and Caleb Johnson was ninth (19:02.30) to lead the Aggies to a second-place finish overall with 54 points while Erie Mason won (22), Whiteford was third (80) and Lenawee Christian was fourth (90).

    Morenci's Beau Shaffer took fifth (18:38.64) and Britton Deerfield's Jameson Watson took 10th (19:22.01).

    Girls Swimming

    Dundee 100, Tecumseh 74

    DUNDEE — Tecumseh picked up five event wins in a loss to Dundee with Jazlyn Reau winning two.

    Reau won the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.36) and 500 freestyle (6:01.37) while Kellie Fahey won the 200 IM (2:38.89), Madison Betz won the 100 backstroke (1:13.44) and Maelie Francis won the diving event (181.00).

    Boys Soccer

    Hillsdale 1, Onsted 0

    ONSTED — The Wildcats dropped their fifth-straight after starting the season 5-3.

    Onsted is now 5-8 on the season and 2-5 in the LCAA.

    WEDNESDAY

    Girls Golf

    LCAA Jamboree at Clinton

    SALINE — The LCAA hit the links at Rustic Glen for the final nine-hole jamboree where Clinton picked up another victory.

    The Redwolves shot a 213 on their home course, beating out Hudson by 29 shots while Onsted was third at 253.

    Raven Aldridge had a strong day on the course with a personal best round.

    SEC Tri at Adrian

    The Maples hosted Saline and Tecumseh at Woodlawn Golf Course where they beat both teams with a round of 181 while Saline shot 188 and Tecumseh shot 236.

    Cassidy Hawken once again led the way with a 43 while Grace Smart was right behind at 44, Madison Thomas shot a 46 and Megan Schutte and Goldie Snead each shot a 49.

    Volleyball

    Lenawee Christian 3, Morenci 1

    MORENCI — The Cougars picked up another TCC win this week as they beat the Bulldogs in four sets, 25-17, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17.

    Callie Anderson had a strong match with 20 kills while Ava Feick and Tory Swiggum had eight kills each and Emerson Holsopple had six. Ila Stewart had 31 digs, Swiggum added 17 and Leah Sherman had 14.

    Boys Soccer

    Blissfield 3, Clinton 2

    BLISSFIELD — Blake Wood netted a hat trick to give the Royals the LCAA win at home against the Redwolves.

    The win puts Blissfield at 5-5-2 overall (4-2-2 LCAA), giving the Royals more wins this season than each of the last two years combined. Clinton is 8-7-1 on the season and 4-3-1 in league play.

    Chelsea 3, Adrian 0

    CHELSEA — The Maples dropped an SEC White matchup on the road in a shutout.

    Gary Kemerer played well in net despite the loss, making 11 saves to try and keep Adrian (6-8-2, 2-5-2 SEC White) in the game.

    Ida 9, Onsted 2

    IDA — The Bluestreaks continued roll against the LCAA as they picked up a convincing win against the Wildcats.

    Onsted is 5-9 and 2-6 in the LCAA.

    Ypsilanti 3, Tecumseh 0

    YPSILANTI — Tecumseh dropped an SEC White road game to Ypsilanti to fall it 1-12-1 on the season.

    THURSDAY

    Volleyball

    Madison Tri

    MADISON TWP. — Addison picked up a pair of non-conference wins against the host Trojans and Westland John Glenn while Madison beat John Glenn as well.

    The Panthers beat the Trojans, 25-22, 25-15, and John Glenn, 25-19, 25-15, while Madison got its win, 25-22, 25-12.

    Molly Brown had 28 kills while Hailey Marsee had 37 assists, Ava Beard had 16 digs and Pearl Morgan had 10 digs and eight aces.

    The Trojans were led by Lily Pharion with 23 kills, Ja'Kara Rincon had 27 assists and 14 digs, Kianna McKinney had 16 digs and Jazlyn Zaszcuzurynski had 14 digs. Aniyah Jones added three blocks.

    Tecumseh 3, Chelsea 0

    TECUMSEH — Tecumseh opened SEC White play with a statement sweep of Chelsea, 25-23, 25-17, 25-23.

    Tecumseh (28-1) got 14 kills and 10 digs from Emma Eldred while Chloe Bullinger had nine kills and eight digs and Lily Gnodtke had 38 assists and eight digs.

    Pinckney 3, Adrian 1

    ADRIAN — The Maples battled through an injury against the Pirates, but dropped the SEC White contest in four sets, 25-19, 25-22, 17-25, 25-12.

    Ella Salenbien had 16 digs and four kills, Edynn Eichorn had 13 digs and Ashley Condon had 16 assists, four kills and three aces. Aubrey Zuvers and Caroline Hofflander each had four kills.

    Summerfield 3, Sand Creek 0

    PETERSBURG — The Aggies fell in a TCC sweep to the Bulldogs, 25-15, 25-15, 25-12.

    Abby Rendel had five kills, Lainey Johnston had 3.5 blocks and Hailey Bennett had 10 digs.

    Erie Mason 3, Britton Deerfield 0

    BRITTON — The Patriots lost their TCC match in three sets to the Eagles, 26-24, 25-16, 25-12.

    Haven Crots had six kills, five digs and three aces while Elloisa Guzman had four kills, three aces and five digs and Kyra Nighswander had five kills and six digs. Adriana Rafalko had 10 assists and Victoria Fraley had 12 digs.

    Boys Soccer

    Blissfield 2, Arbor Prep 0

    BLISSFIELD — The Royals picked up their fourth-straight win to move to 6-5-2 on the season in a non-conference game against Arbor Prep.

    Blissfield's six wins matches its win total of the last three seasons combined and recorded its first shutout since 2021.

    Girls Swimming

    Jackson 93, Adrian 93

    JACKSON — The Maples and Vikings tied in their SEC White dual and both teams had six even wins.

    Ella Salenbien made another state cut as she won the 200 IM (2:21.74) and won the 50 freestyle (26.10). Emma Pino won the 200 freestyle (2:11.92) while Allison Marks won the 100 freestyle (58.46).

    Alexis Fox joined Salenbien, Pino and Marks to win the 200-medley relay (2:02.11) and Pino, Reese Beauleaux, Fox and Marks won the 200-freestyle relay (1:51.80).
