A routine park outing for one Maryville Police reserve officer concluded with the arrest of a Maryville man allegedly found asleep in a park restroom, surrounded by knives and concealing a stolen firearm.

Around 7:39 a.m. Oct. 6, an MPD reservist entered a restroom at Pearson Springs Park, 1467 Montvale Station Road, and found a man asleep on the floor with several knives scattered within arm’s reach and a firearm sticking out from his backside waistband.

On arrival, officers identified the man in question as Brandon Scott Rounsaville, 20, Spring Creek Street. On running his information, officers discovered that Rounsaville was a convicted felon, and that the firearm he was carrying had been reported stolen from Dalton, Georgia.

In total, officers reported recovering several knives, the stolen firearm, 15 rounds of ammunition, a hat containing a matchbox and a small baggie of methamphetamine and two smoking pipes from Rounsaville’s person and the in the bathroom. Additionally, Rounsaville advised officers about a backpack he had hidden in the nearby woods which contained a hammer, three machetes, nunchucks and various other weapons and narcotics.

Rounsaville was arrested and charged with use/possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession/casual exchange of drugs, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft. He was being held in lieu of bonds totalling $13,000 pending a 9:00 a.m. Oct. 8 hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court.
