Colorado State's Mariano His is headed to the NCAA Track Championships with a strong showing in the shot put at the NCAA West Regional on Wednesday.

The senior earned a trip to Eugene, Ore., with an outdoor personal best mark on his first throw in the men's shot put Wednesday evening. The throw of 18.81 meters finished ninth in the preliminary competition and moves Kis up to third all-time in the Colorado State record book.

Seven Rams competed at the regional on the first day but Kis was the only one to advance.

The NCAAs will be held on June 5-8.
