Kickin' it with Kiz: The Broncos are average, the Rockies stink, but worst team in Denver is spelled R-T-D

For the Broncos’ recent home game against Green Bay, our RTD light-rail train was 30 minutes late arriving at the Arapahoe Road station, then required a 50-minute trip to the stadium. It slowed down in the maintenance areas, but no maintenance was ongoing. I mistakenly assumed the rails would be safe for normal speeds, or why would a train packed with fans be using them?

    – P.R., going nowhere fast

Kiz: Let’s hope rookie quarterback Bo Nix is more prepared for the home opener in September than the E Line that crawls, but seldom runs, from the southeastern burbs to the stadium. I like to ride to games with the peeps. But taking the E Line to watch Green Bay was such a major error I’d advise: Stay away! After the game, my 12-mile journey back home from the stadium to Belleview required 2 hours. The Rockies stink. But the worst team in town is spelled R-T-D.

Poor RTD service is the reason we gave up our Broncos’ season tickets after 21 years, and that’s without mentioning the more than a half mile walk from the light-rail station to the stadium.

    – Jill, watches on TV

Kiz: When the RTD train finally chugs to a halt at the Empower Field at Mile High station, you’re actually nowhere near the stadium, with the entrance to your seats a 15-minute walk away. OK, most of us could use a little more exercise in our lives. But rather than a festive off-to-see the Broncos feeling, the trek through an industrial park and under the viaduct has the vibe of that old “Saturday Night Live” skit featuring Matt Foley and his trailer down by the river.

RTD has messed up big time with sports fans over the last decade, getting rid of BroncosRide, as well as failing to take into account late games at Ball Arena. It used to be a great way to get to games, but now I pay big bucks for parking for the Avs or Nuggets.

    – Tommy, driven to distraction

Kiz: Denver is a major-league city served by a toy train system that would be better suited for the Tiny Town Railroad.

In the upcoming football season, the Broncos will win nine games and the CU Buffs will win seven. You heard it here first.

    – K.G., gotta wear shades

Kiz: Should the Broncos and Buffs both enjoy winning records, I will buy you a cold drink and toast their success, as well as your football acumen. Try as we might, the crack staff here at Kickin’ It Headquarters can’t find nine W’s for the Broncos. But I’m counting on Shedeur Sanders to lead CU to nothing less than eight victories.

And today’s parting shot would like me to dial back my lofty expectations for the CU football team.

Kiz, I am thankful you have seen the light and left the toxic confines of The Denver Post. But why do you come to the table with this bull junk about the Buffs, declaring that anything less than eight victories would be a failure?

    – S.R., embracing mediocrity
