Former First Lady Michelle Obama visited Denver and made a “surprise” stop at local bookstore Tattered Cover, she said in a video Friday posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

She promoted her latest book "The Light We Carry," published in 2022.

In the video, the former first lady took out a black Sharpie marker from her bag and signed copies of her books on the store’s stands. She told people to let her know if they find a copy with her signature.

Tattered Cover is a beloved Denver bookstore founded in the 1970s. After months of going through bankruptcy proceedings, national bookstore chain Barnes & Noble acquired the indie store for $1.8 million and its CEO James Daunt promised to keep the Denver brand’s identity independent and separate from the corporate company.

Obama said it was her first time back at Tattered Cover since 2018, when she came for a book signing promoting her memoir "Becoming."

“Until then, you guys be good,” Obama said at the end of the video. “And remember to vote.”
