A little rain never hurt anybody including those who came out to the Iowa State Fair on Monday amid light showers .

Attendance fell short of beating 2023's total on the fifth day of the fair. The showers may have contributed to the shortage in turnout as Des Moines saw nearly half an inch of rain Monday.

The rainy day came after a record-breaking turnout weekend for the fair. Saturday and Sunday outdid 2023 attendance. Saturday also broke the single-day attendance record.

Regardless of what the people of Minnesota say, the Iowa State Fair is the place to be and attendance reflects that this year.

The Iowa State Fair saw 92,920 people attend Monday for fair's fifth day.

How does attendance at the 2024 Iowa State Fair compare to 2023?

Attendance in 2024 was down 7,294 people from 2023 when 100,214 people attended the fifth day. It's the first day in 2024 to not have more attendees than last year.

So far, the fair has seen a total of 15,382 more attendees through the first five days than in 2023.

The rain didn't stop the Iowa State Fair. Monday kicked off with a parade honoring veterans on the Grand Concourse. Artists went to work on wood during the annual chainsaw carving contest.

Fairgoers weren't the only ones who got wet. Attendees saw the Flying Fools fall and jump from heights as high as 82 feet into a 10-foot pool.
