Lightning and thunderstorms cut the seventh day of the Iowa State Fair short with the Motley Crue's Grandstand concert ending early due to the weather.
The Thrill Park also had to close early because lightning was detected within 8 miles of the fairgrounds. But periods of dry weather during the day were enough to lure about 500 more people to the fair than on the Wednesday in 2023.

Aside from the party ending a little early Wednesday evening, there were still plenty of big moments at the Iowa State Fair before the storm came.
The Iowa State Patrol K9 Demonstration showed fair attendees the day-to-day work of a police service dog. Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand also made an appearance, cooking pork burgers outside of the Iowa Pork Producers tent.
