If you tried to go to Sleepy Hollow to test out the fake snow tubing as a way to beat the summer heat, you may have been faced with closed gates.

On June 22, Sleepy Hollow Sports Park in Des Moines closed the tubing hill for repairs, and is still not available for snow tubing.

On the park's website, a pop-up that says "The park is closed for repairs" is the first thing you're greeted with when attempting to buy tickets or passes. The rest of the alert says "Unfortunately the tubing hill is now closed and will remain closed till further notice. Staff are putting their full energy into repairing some mechanical issues that arose."

The 600-foot tubing hill has been closed for "mechanical repairs" since mid-June, according to multiple Facebook posts from the park.

According to Polk County Community Outreach Supervisor Jessica Lown, the issue lies with the lift that transports park-goers up and down the hill.

"There was an issue with the hydraulics," Lown told the Register. "While they were working through how best to fix the hydraulics, with the manufacturer and with the local installer supplier, we discovered that there were some additional issues with the belt that operates the lift."

Sleepy Hollow was bought by Polk County Conservation in 2021 . The county reopened the park over Memorial Day weekend this year, launching the largest all-weather tubing hill in the world .

"Hang tight. It'll all be resolved soon and another everyday adventure awaits you on the world's largest all-weather tubing hill!" a Facebook post from the park on June 22 said.

"Sleepy Hollow will remain closed for an unknown length of time," a follow-up Facebook post said on June 28 . "Unfortunately the lift cannot be repaired until we receive a replacement part from the manufacturer. Here's hoping the international shipping overlords smile upon us!"

A contractor is supposed to come around mid-September and they expect to have a "firmer grasp on dates and times and things like that," Lown said.

However, Lown is hopeful for a reopening soon.

"I would encourage attendees to remain excited and optimistic, we certainly are here at Sleepy Hollow," Lown said. "We know that once it reopens, it will continue to be a really wonderful experience for families."
