Train the next Caitlin Clark inside this $1,785,000 Waukee home’s hidden sports facility

Almost invisible from the street, a sports-lovers dream facility hides behind a $1.8 million Waukee home that could become a regular practice space to nurture a future basketball phenom.

Realtor Jason Stuyvesant has listed the 3,648-square-foot, two-story house for $1,785,000. The home offers a quiet and convenient setting, desirable acreage and a 5,940-square-foot self-contained basketball court. The well-equipped gym features scoreboards, layouts for volleyball and indoor hockey, and an indoor rock-climbing wall with harnesses, ropes and safety equipment.

“And that floor in the gym is actually the old Drake practice floor,” Stuyvesant said.

Filling five-and-a-half acres at the corner of Sixth Street and Westown Parkway, the home is surrounded by mature trees and country views and sits less than three miles from the Vibrant Music Hall, Hickman Road and the Waukee School District.

Accessible via two driveways on the southwest side of the property, one leads directly to a red barn that could be used for keeping maintenance equipment, as a second garage, or “storing a boat,” Stuyvesant suggested.

The barn’s upper level is currently unfinished and ready to be converted into an office or studio. “If I were buying the house, I'd probably put a golf simulator up there,” Stuyvesant added.

Inside the main property, the home offers six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, including an apartment-style space above the four-car garage. The living room rises to the second story, well-lit by numerous windows and centered around a stone-framed gas fireplace.

The main floor includes a large kitchen with four seats at an island, or guests can eat in the adjoining dining space. A corner sunroom could also double as a home office.

A primary bedroom, and an additional bedroom with a half bath round out the main floor, with two more bedrooms installed upstairs, each with their own walk-in closets. Downstairs in the basement, two Murphy beds have been permanently installed into the wall to create a sixth sleeping space.

The 2,000-square-foot lower level is fully finished and has most recently been used as a family space and games area. The pool table and air hockey game will stay for the next owner. A large wet bar and media room were designed to create a welcoming atmosphere to entertain family members or multiple guests.

A long outdoor deck accessible from the main level includes a staircase that heads down to another seating area surrounding a firepit. The rear of the house has been fenced for dogs to enjoy the back garden but can be removed to extend the large lawn down to the woodland property line.

The steel-clad basketball court is accessed through its own exterior doors or an indoor hallway that connects from the basement and can be locked to keep it a separate entity from the main house.

While the annex could be converted for other uses, Stuyvesant thinks the next owner will want to take full advantage of the rare opportunity and encourage their family or groups of children and young adults to visit and play. “It will take the right buyer, but I am a firm believer that that right buyer is out there,” he said.

The home is listed at $1,785,000 by Jason Stuyvesant of Sold by Jason — Re/Max Concepts . Contact Stuyvesant at 515-778-9669 for more information and a private showing.
