    Des Moines police: Missing 80-year-old man with dementia has been found

    A missing elderly man with dementia has been found and is being reunited with his family, the Des Moines Police Department announced Monday evening.

    “Thanks to an attentive resident, Jose has been located! He is in good shape and being reunited with his family. Thank you to all who stayed vigilant!” DMPD wrote in a social media post.

    80-year-old Jose Diaz was reported missing from the 1400 block of East 25th Street at approximately 3:15 p.m. Monday. He left walking and did not have access to a vehicle.

    Diaz is approximately 5'2" tall, and weighs approximately 145 pounds. He was last known to be wearing a blue-colored shirt, blue-colored pants, and a ball cap.

    "Jose is a person with dementia and may not be able to effectively communicate his destination or where he lives," according to a social media post from DMPD .
