    Widening Ankeny Boulevard and adding turn lanes? Construction could begin in spring 2026

    The Iowa Department of Transportation has proposed widening part of busy Ankeny Boulevard.

    The department announced in a news release that officials are seeking public feedback about a proposal to widen Ankeny Boulevard/Highway 69 in central Ankeny from Southeast Peterson Drive to First Street.

    The project would include widening the road, adding new turn lanes at intersections, replacing traffic signals at First and Third streets and other safety improvements.

    Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2026 and be finished by the end of fall 2026. One lane of traffic would remain open in each direction during construction.

    The department is accepting feedback, due by Sept. 6, online .
