How much rain did Des Moines see? Here are Iowa's rainfall totals for Thursday into Friday

Des Moines and many areas of Iowa saw rainfall Thursday night into Friday morning.

Much of the rainfall was in the eastern and northeastern sides of the state, however, central Iowa accumulated about an inch of rain as well. Meanwhile, parts of eastern Iowa saw over 2 inches of rain across Thursday and Friday.

How much rain did Des Moines get?

Des Moines saw 1.02 inches of rainfall from Thursday to Friday, along with some thunder and lightning. Des Moines has seen far less rainfall in August compared to July, which surpassed the monthly average . Excluding any rainfall from Aug. 30 since the data is not complete, Des Moines has seen 2.77 inches of rain in August, according to the National Weather Service .

Where in Iowa had the most rain?

Looking back over 24 hours from 7 a.m . Friday, here are the towns in Iowa that saw the most rain:

• Muscatine: 2.19 inches
• Algona: 2.15 inches
• Cedar Rapids: 2.03 inches

Will there be more rain ahead of the weekend?

The rest of August looks as though it will remain sunny. After a week of heat , temperatures will begin to fall as well. Friday will be partly sunny with a high of 80 degrees. Saturday will remain sunny but a little warmer with a high of 84 degrees. Temperatures will drop to 77 degrees by Sunday for a sunny day.
