    Looking to retire in Iowa soon? The state frequently ranks high on lists of places for seniors to retire . Once you've settled on the state, how do you know which city to pick? A new study from SmartAsset recently ranked the 10 best places to retire in Iowa.

    Based on an analysis that considers tax burden for a senior earning $35,000, access to medical care and opportunities for social and recreational activity, here are the results.

    Where is the best county in Iowa to retire? Why?

    Clayton County ranked the best county in Iowa to retire, with a score of 42.54 and a tax burden of 19.9%.

    Clayton County's population is 23.4% seniors, with a recreation and social index score of 55, more than 15 points higher than any other Iowa county.

    How did Polk County rank?

    Polk County, the only metro-area county to make the top 10, came in fourth best place with a score of 38.41 and 13.1% senior population. The county did have the lowest estimated tax burden of the top counties at 17.5%.
