Annika Mohrhauser, Dewell Anderson are voted the Register's Athletes of the Week

Ankeny Centennial girls cross country runner Anika Mohrhauser and Dowling Catholic boys golfer Dewell Anderson were voted the Des Moines Register metro-area female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of Sept. 22-28.

Mohrhauser won female Athlete of the Week with 43% of the vote. Johnston girls swimmer Faith Frantum placed second with 30%.

Mohrhauser was the fastest Iowa runner at the Rim Rock Farm Classic on Saturday at Lawrence, Kan.

In a meet that featured some of the best cross country runners from the Midwest, Mohrhauser placed seventh overall in the Gold Division with a 5-kilometer time of 18:17.6.

Anderson won male Athlete of the Week with 63% of the vote. Ankeny football player Caden Henkens placed second with 23%.

Anderson took first place for the Dowling Catholic golf team at the Southeast Polk Invitational held Sept. 25 at the Copper Creek Golf Club and Event Center in Pleasant Hill.

He shot a 3-under-par score of 68. He edged Southeast Polk's Cooper Patterson and Valley's Braeden Nelson by one stroke to claim victory.
