Mason Bandhauer, son of former Iowa State quarterback Todd Bandhauer, commits to Cyclones

Iowa State football just got its first commitment for the 2026 recruiting class, and there are family ties.

Mason Bandhauer, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound offensive lineman from Fort Collins, Colorado, announced his commitment on social media on Sunday.

He is a three-star prospect and the No. 34-ranked offensive tackle in his class, according to 247 Sports. He was named first-team all-conference as a sophomore last year and is considered one of the top linemen in his state this season.

He is the son of 1998 Iowa State graduate Todd Bandhauer, a standout quarterback and a two-time All-Big 12 honorable-mention pick in his heyday. The elder Bandhauer is among the top 10 in the school record books for career passing yards, completions and touchdown passes. His 20 touchdown passes during his junior season was the single-season program record until Brock Purdy broke it in 2019.

The younger Bandhauer elected to follow in his father's footsteps, choosing the Cyclones over other reported offers from Boston College, Colorado State, Kansas, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Washington State and Wyoming.

He announced his decision just one day after the Cyclones' 38-35 comeback win over UCF. Bandhauer was in attendance on Saturday on an unofficial visit. He is the first commitment in Iowa State's 2026 recruiting class.
