It's not high school football in the desert without our fan favorite Friday Night Hero voting.

Each week we pick five players who had a big night and let you vote for your favorite. You know the drill.

You can vote at desertsun.com and find the poll at the bottom of this article. Whoever has the most votes at noon on Wednesday will be the winner.

So without further ado, here are the first Friday Night Hero nominees for the 2024 season:

    Sebastian Casillas, Coachella Valley

What he did: The Arabs' defensive lineman lived in the Xavier Prep backfield in this one. Only a sophomore, he recorded two early sacks that set the tone for a Coachella Valley defense that held the Saints scoreless.

    Ozyas Crawford, Desert Hot Springs

What he did: Crawford did it on both sides of the ball for the Golden Eagles. He had an interception in the first half and then scored the game's first touchdown when he took a handoff and rumbled 40 yards for the score in a 20-14 win for Desert Hot Springs.

    JoJo Diaz, Shadow Hills

    Aaron Ramirez, Coachella Valley

What he did: Ramirez was bottled up most of the game but then broke free for two long touchdown runs on back-to-back carries in the third quarter. He finished with 152 yards on 18 carries including touchdown runs of 41 and 24 yards.
