10 things to do in the Coachella Valley this week, Sept. 2-8

By Niki Kottmann, Palm Springs Desert Sun,

    2024-09-01

The Coachella Valley is home to a number of events and activities to enjoy — even in the dog days of summer. If you're interested in filling your calendar, we've put together a list of 10 things happening this week in the valley and nearby communities.

To submit an event for consideration in future articles, send an email to niki.kottmann@desertsun.com with the time, date, location and price of admission, as well as a brief event description. Photos are not required but highly encouraged as part of the submission. (Tip: Send your submission as early as possible to make sure we have it in time, and to make sure your event jumps out in our inbox, put "10 things to do submission" in the email subject line.)

Check out the following events this week:

Spaghetti Western Saloon Salon Art Exhibit

Enjoy this new exhibit by Twentynine Palms-based artists Karen Oliphint and Dustin Otterbach. Oliphint, as the exhibit press release states, was raised in Austin, Texas, but has spent the last three decades finding creative inspiration in Colorado, Arizona and now the high desert. She's found a valuable creative outlet with her experience alongside husband and fellow artist Otterbach, and she has also studied under artist/author Jerome Gastaldi. She hopes you find her work in this exhibit both calming and moving. Otterbach, a Southern California native, "credits his parents’ work ethics, creativity and a stable upbringing with providing him the sense of freedom to express himself." The sculptor's process is to work with found objects and paint on scrap metal, allowing its weathered patinas and textures to guide him. Note: If you happen to read this in time, you can attend the opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1.

When: On view now through Oct. 27 (the public can view the exhibit during regular restaurant hours, 4-9 p.m. Thursdays-Sundays)

Where: Spaghetti Western, 50-048 29 Palms Highway, Morongo Valley

Cost: Free to view, with food and drink available for purchase
